Ski with a Champion
Have you ever watched natural born athletes execute their craft, up close and personal? Their body movements are so fluid and effortless they seem as if they could transport themselves into another dimension. Deer Valley’s innovative Ski With A Champion program gives you the exclusive opportunity to experience this magic first-hand. Hosted by Deer Valley’s Ambassador of Skiing and three-time Olympian Heidi Voelker, you’ll have the chance to ski alongside Heidi or one of five other Olympic athletes for a whole or half-day.
As you may know, Park City is home to the United States Ski and Snowboard Association and serves as the training grounds for the nation’s best skiers. Located at One Victory Lane, athletes from across the country move here to pursue their athletic careers and add trophies to their cases. And when it’s time to hang-up their hats, many US Ski Team athletes remain in Park City because of the lifestyle and the world-class skiing they’ve discovered.
Deer Valley has tapped into this vibrant talent pool.
“Since the 2002 Winter Olympics, a large number of Olympic athletes have made Park City, Utah, home,” says Deer Valley Resort President and General Manager Bob Wheaton. “Over the years we have built close relationships with many of them. This is really the base [and] inspiration of the Ski with a Champion Program at Deer Valley Resort.”

Regardless of your skiing style and terrain preferences, one of these six athletes will fit the bill. From U.S Ski Team Hall of Fame inductee, Fuzz Feddersen, to two-time Olympian and four-time National Champion alpine ski racer, Kaylin Richardson, these athletes are dedicated to helping you create unforgettable Deer Valley moments. Prefer a day spent skiing moguls? Let Olympic Silver medalist Shannon Bahrke show you the way, or ski with one of freestyle skiing’s most progressive athletes, Jillian Vogtli, one of the only woman to execute a cork 720 in mogul competition. Got a thing for heavy metal? Then ski with the most decorated male freestyle skier in U.S history, Trace Worthington.
“The Ski with a Champion program gives Deer Valley guests the opportunity to hit the slopes with local athletes who have made an impact in the ski community while creating their own unforgettable memories,” Wheaton says.

Ski With A Champion is geared toward group sizes up to six skiers and are intentionally kept small to enhance the experience. Groups up to 10 can be accommodated with the addition of a Deer Valley Resort Mountain Host or Ski Instructor. Deer Valley is excited to provide guests with this unique insight into the mountain offerings from the eyes of these athletes.
“It has been a dream come true to be part of the Deer Valley family for over 20 years,” says Heidi Voelker. “I have the pleasure of working with some of the best people in the ski industry at one of the best resorts in the world. It doesn’t get any better than that.”
The day is yours for the making as these athletes are dedicated to giving you the experience you’re after. Ski as much or as little as you want, sip hot cocoa, and enjoy Deer Valley’s famous mountainside cuisine as you get to know one of the world’s best skiers.

Not ready to ski with a champ but still want to see them in action? You’re in luck: Deer Valley will be hosting an international competition for its 18th year, with the FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup. From February 1 to 4, 2017, athletes will take the stage on the 2002 Winter Olympic Games venue, hurling their bodies down the moguls course and aerials hill before flipping and twisting through the air. This event draws some of the biggest crowds for Freestyle World Cups and the energy of the fans is unmatched. Come watch as these athletes make history.
Ski With A Champion is designed for intermediate skiers and above—instruction is not a part of the program. If you are seeking an instructional ski experience, please look at these other Deer Valley programs.

I skied in my younger years. Then blew out my knee at Alta in 1990 and I haven’t gone back. I’m 68 and have loved snowshoeing this winter. But after 27 years I really want to try skiing again. Can you help someone like me?!
Hey Jan,
Thanks for reaching out. Our Ski School would love to help you get back on the slopes. Learn more about our ski school here: http://www.deervalley.com/WhatToDo/SkiSchool.
Don’t give up 68 is not too late to start skiing again.
I think of it as for a health thing.
63 and hadn’t skied in 10-12 years.
A time I find it hard to keep up with those in their 70’s.
