Getaway with your Girlfriends to Deer Valley Resort

Little compares with a girls’ getaway—especially one involving blue mountain skies, perfectly manicured corduroy, and, of course, a bit of bubbly. Get your muscles a little tired out in the fresh air, then enjoy some toasty spa time and excellent cuisine. (Because seriously, no one wants to cook.) Deer Valley is, in a way, made for this sort of vacation. The resort prides itself on thorough and impeccable service that lets guests relax without lifting a finger. And once you factor in the resort’s close proximity to all the deliciousness of Main Street, Park City, you have even more dining, shopping, yoga, and gallery options to choose from.

We polled a few ladies who regularly make Deer Valley their getaway of choice. Here are a few highlights that could help make your escape more adventurous, more relaxing, and more fulfilling.

1. Take Full Advantage of the Skiing

Hey, Utah’s snow is world-class, and Deer Valley Resort is known for its impeccable grooming on-piste and luxuriously soft powder off-piste. Venture away from the base areas and explore the resort’s farther reaches; the resort signage and maps make it easy to keep yourself oriented. Beginner and intermediate members of your group might love taking a private ski lesson from a female instructor who can help everyone become more comfortable and confident. Meanwhile, the advanced ladies in your group can explore the farther reaches of the resort’s upper bowls. The steeps off the Empire Express chairlift offer plenty of challenging terrain and exceptionally beautiful vistas. Perhaps join Deer Valley’s complementary expert mountain host tours. Let the mountain challenge you, work your muscles, and hopefully take your breath away. Trust us, it’s the most fun way to earn a decadent evening meal.

2. Après the Right Way

Kick up your feet at “the beach” outside Silver Lake Lodge—a sunny, sprawling area with mountain views and row after row of Adirondack chairs you can sink into. It’s the ideal way to let the day melt away while you catch a little much-appreciated vitamin D. If you’re feeling extra bubbly (and who isn’t on a girls’ trip), check out the Veuve Clicquot après lounge yurt outside the Montage. It’s a true luxury yurt with splendid décor—and, of course, lots of premium champagne to sip alongside a few choice small plates. It may be the most sumptuous yurt you’ll ever step into.

Later, after everyone’s cleaned up a bit, try riding the funicular up the mountainside to the plush St. Regis Deer Valley. The hotel bar has a beautiful outdoor balcony with plenty of fire pits to cozy up to. It’s the perfect spot to watch a spectacular mountain sunset and enjoy a round of appetizers.

3. Eat to Your Heart’s Desire

If you’re in the mood to keep things superbly simple, stick to the lovely variety of restaurants on the premises; the resort has made a name for itself in the culinary world, so you’d be hard-pressed to choose the “wrong” dining spot. For an elegant night out, The Mariposa is the number one ranked restaurant in Utah for food and service, according to Zagat. Or enjoy a European-style fireside meal at the Empire Canyon Lodge. The Brass Tag features brick-oven cuisine, including fresh seafood, seared meats, seasonal flatbreads and salads, as well as a full bar.

If you feel like venturing out, arrange a ride to Park City’s Historic Main Street just five minutes away. There you’ll get a taste of the broader Park City food scene. Shabu is known for its creative and gorgeous Asian dishes, while Handle serves unparalleled, locally sourced American bistro food. A great benefit of hitting Historic Main Street for dinner is what follows dinner: a proper night out on the town. You can cozy up in a booth to catch up over craft cocktails, or you can dance the night away with your favorite ladies.

4. Step into the Local Scene

Schedule at least one “off” day where you rest your ski legs and stroll around town. The locally owned boutiques and galleries can’t be beat. Mary Jane’s Boutique is staffed by like minded ladies who love the mountains yet embrace a sophisticated style sensibility. And local gallery artists capture the Wasatch Range’s landscapes and wildlife in ways you really can take home with you. Don’t forget to pack your stretch pants; locally owned, The Shop yoga studio offers fantastic classes taught by seasoned local instructors. They’ll know how to stretch, soothe, and strengthen the muscles you’ve been working all week.

5. Unwind—Because You Can

Relax in the pool at the Montage Spa.

And finally, book a little time that demands nothing of you at all—perhaps a spa treatment at the decadent Stein Eriksen or Montage spas. An hour or two of true quiet time spent on a massage table does wonders. To really up the ante, indulge in a soak, body wrap, facial, or other treatment. The resort is home to multiple world-class spas, so you’d be remiss to skip such an important component of the local landscape.

By the end of your getaway at Deer Valley, you should feel the perfect balance of relaxed, restored, and replenished by a blend of girl time and mountain splendor. And since the resort’s just 45 minutes from the Salt Lake City International Airport, you can get right to it without any fuss.

See you out there—we’ll have the champagne ice buckets ready.

Would love to ski without the worry of snowboarders coming up behind you and knocking you down. Enjoying the beautiful scenery and relaxing spa!

Where is the nearest airport you can fly into and do they have a car service that will take you to the resort and take you back to the airport to fly back? I wouldn’t want to rent a car if I don’t have too.

Have enjoyed Deer Valley many times with my family. I would like to purchase the Veuve Cliquot pillow in your ad on Facebook as a souvenir of our visit for a friend. Can you give me any information or can I buy it from you. I have not been able to navigate their site. Thanks,

    Hey Vivian,

Salt Lake International Airport would be the closest. It’s about 35 miles from Deer Valley Resort. There are a lot of car services. Here is one that we work with a lot: http://www.parkcitytransportation.com/
